Kahvalti 2

On our search for the best breakfast, Derin Bahce was suggested. So we gave it a go! Bright and early we set off from Datca along the D400 where it is on the left almost opposite Flow Hotel.

Charlie had wanted to visit even before the recommendation because of the little tree houses in the garden. The location is very pretty with lots of trees and greenery. We were shown to our tree house where we were invited to remove our shoes before climbing into the little house and lounging on comfy cushions with one of the low traditional tables. By now everyone knew how to say the  'Dort kahvalti lutfen' and Tom also wanted a 'Turk Kahvesi sade lutfen'. Along came 3 waiters with all the stuff. This time we had the traditional tea pot on a burner along with bread, olives, eggs, cheese, almonds, honey and jams. However there was no borek or gozleme so although the setting was fabulous, we felt the breakfast in Eski Datca was a little better. However it was all lovely and we will return.

So very hot yet so green here

Posh Coffee

Or rather a posh place to have coffee. I visited the Mehmet Ali Aga Konagi over ten years ago just as it had been restored and opened as a hotel. Its a beautiful old mansion house with interesting ceilings, wall paintings and gorgeous gardens. I don't know why I have not been back before now but the gardens have matured into a stunning retreat. I think Matt and I will treat ourselves to dinner there soon.

Zagor

It is very hot here now, mostly around 35C or more so a boat trip was in order. We chose Zagor, a newish boat in the harbour because it holds up to 6 people and was perfect for our small party of 4.  It is a fishing boat that has been nicely renovated for daily tours. We thoroughly enjoyed the day, the boat was comfortable and lunch cooked by the captain was delicious. It was the usual peninsula trip travelling down to the light house and then coming slowly back stopping at coves for swimming. Here are some photos of our day.

Koy Kahvalti

Some of our favourite breakfast places have closed so we asked Metin for a recommendation. He suggested The Mehtap in Eski Datca for a good village breakfast. So we rose early and headed off that way. It is a rustic looking place on the main street, just past the school. The hosts were very welcoming, we arrived at 9.15 and were almost the first customers of the day. 'Dort kahvalti lufen' I said and the nice man smiled and rushed off down the road in his car. 'Hmm' we thought maybe they don't have any food and he has gone to Migros!  However there was a lot of rustling from the kitchen and a smiley lady appeared with a kitch table cloth and then loads of food - olives, bread, honey, cheesy borek, fried eggs, cheeses, butter, a plate of green leaves, tomatoes and cucumber. The jam was home made I think - mulberry jam and quince. Then came 4 glasses of Turkish tea and a flask with more to top up with. We had the customary audience of a crowd of cats all gazing at us with expectation. It was almost empty when we arrived but gradually more people piled in until it was very busy. The breakfast was fresh and delicious and then came the bill. Fifteen lira each (3.75 pounds) - smashing!
Then we wandered round the village, did some shopping and finally collapsed in a cafe.
Here are some photos of our nice morning out.
