Beyaz Amca - White Uncle
It is hard to recommend restaurants in Datca as we've had so many lovely meals. However one of our favourites in Beyaz Amca run by Meryl and Robert. They are so friendly and welcoming. The outside area of their restaurant was tarted up during the work on the harbour and now they have a lovely bar and dining area by the sea and there is also a pool fed by a hot spring. It was Matt's last night and so he chose to eat there.
Iyi Bayramlar
Ramazan is over and the 3 day Seker Bayramlar has begun. This is an Islamic religious holiday to celebrate the end of Ramazan. The children are dressed in new party clothes and everyone is celebrating with family and friends. Seker means sugar and so you must have sweets available for the children and visitors.
We have a home on a small complex of 14 villas, all of our neighbours are Turkish and today they invited us to celebrate with them. They were so charming and we did our best to speak Turkish to them. We ate borek and baklava, wishing them all Iyi Bayramlar. On leaving we shook hands with everyone and said Iyi Bayramlar, Allah asmarlidik. Good festival, may God remain with you.

Market Day
Saturday is market day in Datca and the whole place is crowded with visitors from far and wide. We decided to stagger around it in 35C and then ended up collapsed in Yasar's bar by the harbour for tost and orange juice. Ramazan ends today and they are preparing for a 3 day holiday, so Datca is heaving with Turkish holiday makers and not an empty bed to be found.

Suits you sir.
Rolex watches 10 lira lol
Everything you could ever want including Nazar Boncuk.
Hours of work for just a few lira.
A nice place to rest after the retail therapy.

My Favourite Datca Friends
This morning we visited my favourite Datca friends in their beautiful house. It is set among an olive and almond grove with stunning views to the mountains. I have placed my order for 3kg of their lovely, recently harvested almonds and will pick them up next week.
Their gorgeous house is now for sale as they have decided that after living in paradise for a few years, the time is right for a new adventure elsewhere.
If you are reading this and would be interested in buying this fabulous 3 bedroomed bungalow with pool, gorgeous walled garden and a lot of land with almond and olive trees near Hizarsah, Datca, Turkey please contact me and I'll put you in touch.

It's His Duty!
Matt says it is his duty to go wind surfing if the wind is blowing. It has certainly been doing that in the last few days and he is starting to look worn out. He goes off for the morning has a break for lunch and then off again until 18.30. Hil and I have been lazing on the beach watching but today we decided to find alternative activities.

When the Boat Came In
... it was carrying Hil from Bodrum. It was lovely to see her and now she has settled in for 2 weeks in Datca.

Buzz on the Beach
Yesterday there was a buzz on the beach. All the wind and kite surfers had been lounging around for days in the 40C heat with no breeze and were getting hacked off with it. So yesterday afternoon up sprang the famous Datca wind and dozens of them rigged up their sails and headed off in the direction of Symi. Matt was among them wearing his very bright board shorts and he wizzed about all afternoon while I read my book on a lounger. He was one of the last to come back at around 18.30, looking very happy and then we sat on the beach for the best part of the day with a beer.
Later that night we dined at Maradona's Restaurant in the harbour followed by drinks at Yasar's bar where we met a couple of teachers on their holidays fron England. It was nice talking to them and we rolled home about 2 am.
